    Hey Gabe!

I love your honesty in this episode with the fact that good isn’t good enough. It’s true, and as I watch reviews from the Dice Tower and other places, I can’t help but notice that the things that are praised are improvements on existing systems, originality, or unique themes. Though, unique themes seem to be something of a hit or miss. The flip side of this for new designers seems to be the mantra that designing ought to be a learning experience first and foremost. What are measurable milestones for designers who eventually strive to be in a place where 17th place isn’t good enough?

Thanks for your passion and content!

P.S. I always listen to your bonus content! Great stuff.

It’s hard to put specific milestones on a subjective thing like a game being “good.” I think this is why having a community of honest people around you is so important. They can push you farther than you might push yourself because they can see things more objectively.

This is also why taking your game to conventions is so important. The more eyes you can get on a game and the more people can play it and give you feedback–the better chance you have of making something special.

    Gabe,

I”m glad that you took the time to focus one show to display your passion for the industry and all that we do as designers to make it great for everyone! AS a published game designer, there are things you simply must do everyday…that 80% which isn’t always fun, but absolutely necessary.

    Cheers,
    Joe
