How to Work on Multiple Games at the Same Time with Daryl Andrews

Daryl Andrews, designer of Sagrada, discusses how to work on a bunch of designs at the same time.

Daryl has designed around 100 games that are either in stores, in production, or have been signed and are waiting to move forward, so he has a TON of knowledge on the subject.

    Gabe,

When I hear podcasts such as this, I realize that I’m a more focused “board game designer” than…well, board game designers. At any one time, I’m working on no more than about two-three different games, especially as our first published game is now in the hands of many of our backers. at present, I’m refining the rules of one game, while sending out copies for additional play-testing; while another one, I’m starting to pen the ideas for an expansion. I still perform quite a number of hours in development work for Academy, Compass, Decision, and RedImp Games. But, development work is usually at a much different level of intensity than design work. I’m both in awe of folks like Daryl, but I also know that I don’t want to do this full-time. Development work, maybe; but not a full-time designer.

    Cheers,
    Joe
