Wow! This contest will be a great boon for the community! I love the direction you are going with this Gabe! I hope to participate but whether or not I am able I just wanted to express gratitude for what you’re doing.

    Hi Gabe,

How do you recommend creating a URL for a sell sheet? Google docs? I don’t have a website and I’m not sure the best way to submit my documents when they are ready.

    1. gabe says:

The easiest way is to upload your flies to a program like Dropbox. Then, it will give you a shareable URL.

If I have created a website for my prototype game may I use a page within that website (with its own specific URL) to place a copy of my Business Card, my Pitch, and my Sellsheet?

        1. gabe says:

          Absolutely.

  4. Casey Trimble says:

I appreciate the work, Gabe! Looking forward to learning a lot from this.

    1. gabe says:

Thanks! I’m glad the BGDL can help you along in your game design journey.

  5. Hey Gabe!
I have a game that I hope to be starting the kickstarter right before dtcon this year! Would I still be allowed to enter it into the contest. (seeing how it is currently not published and who knows if it will fund or not)
your rules also state that it has to be my own original work…Im assuming that does not include the art that has been done for it…
PS Thanks for what you do. Your podcast has had a huge impact on the way I see the mechanics of games!

    1. gabe says:

If it’s on Kickstarter during the judging period, it’s available in a retail space, so it would not be eligible.

“Your own original work” just means work you have the rights to. If you’ve bought artwork, you have the rights to it.

Thanks for listening to the show! I’m glad the BGDL has helped you along in your design journey.

      1. okay yeah that makes sense! Thanks for your response!

    Hi!
I just started listening to the show a few weeks ago and I’m loving this. Whereas I’ve had a lot of design ideas, only a couple have made it to friends ears, let alone tables. I’m really exited about using this competition as my “mother in law” to get a game designed and ready to pitch! I know the first game any person makes is terrible but as this is a feedback driven competition, $5 is a great bargain for a pros advice.
My one question is, how strict is the no rpgs rule? Do have a couple of games you could use as a sliding scale of reference?

    1. gabe says:

I’m glad you’re enjoying the show. Thanks for listening!

As far as RPGs, basically if your game is a pen and paper style game that is akin to DnD or something similar, it’s not eligible.

      1. Antony Cowburn says:

Great! Thanks for clarifying. I think mine will be fine, expect my entry soon!

  7. I found out about this contest yesterday, but I managed to pull something together with 10 minutes to spare, haha!

That’s what I get for not listening to this podcast in reverse-chronological order. 😛

    1. gabe says:

      Well done!

  8. Becky Myers says:

Hi! What time would you approximately be announcing who made it to round 2 tomorrow?

    1. gabe says:

That’s a great question. My original plan was to announce it in the morning, but I’m currently waiting on feedback from a couple very late judges. Hopefully, I can announce the list by lunch.
