The Board Game Design Lab came into existence for a very simple reason: I could never find the game design info that I needed. And I assumed I wasn’t the only one.
So, I went through thousands of blog posts on every topic on board game design that I could find, picked out the good ones, and organized the links to make things easy to find.
Every week, I comb the internet for more articles and resources, and I add the good stuff to the site.
I had a lot of very specific questions I wanted to ask game designers and publishers, and as it turns out, they’re more than happy to answer those questions when asked. So, I created the BGDL Podcast.
I release a weekly show that interviews designers, publishers, and board game insiders on specific topics. We don’t waste time talking about games we’ve played lately or get caught up on pop culture. There are plenty of other podcasts that do those things very well.
Instead, the show does a deep dive into subjects that I hope listeners find extremely valuable as they progress through their game design journeys.
The show comes out on Wednesdays.
Check it out on iTunes HERE.
Thank you for visiting the site, and I hope you find it helpful.
I can’t wait to play the game you come up with.
Hey. My name is Gabe, and I’m a fledgling game designer.
Designers have an incredible opportunity to help people escape to faraway lands without having to leave the comfort of their homes. We get to bring joy and laughter and sometimes even betrayal to people we’ve never even met as they experience what we’ve created.
I love that a designer can bring friends and families together around a sacred place: the table. Designers get to help people disconnect from the craziness of modern day life and reconnect with the people who are most important to them. It’s a privilege.
And we carry a responsibility to make the best games we possibly can. I hope this site helps you create great games.
More About Me
Six years ago, I co-founded the M25 Mission Camp that organizes mission trips for high school and college students to serve the homeless in Atlanta. I spend four months of the year in Atlanta leading mission teams, and I spend eight months in Honduras working with an organization that helps orphans transition out of orphanages.
I’m the author of six books, and I’m currently working on a number of games.
And I’m also married to an amazing woman and the father of two wonderful little girls.
